$8 vs $2

What is $8?? and what is that $2...??
The breakfast meal as in the picture below are always available in one of the cafe near to my house here, in Kingsford. If i were to have it there, it will cost me $8. I had tried if before, it taste lovely and seems easy to prepare, thus it's inspired me to do it my self..and it cost me not even $2..let's see the breakdowns:-
  • Baby spinach - 30 cent
  • Bread - my homemade bread (say 50 cent), might be cheaper i guess
  • Bake beans - 80 cent for 1 whole can (i took quarter of it, say 20 cent)
  • Egg - 25 cent each
  • lectricity - 50 cent
  • Total : 30 cent + 50 cent + 20 cent + 25 cent + 50 cent = $1.75

pstttt...i didnt meant to be calculative :D im just saying..sometime it worth to do it ourself..specially when come to simple meal like this.. :D

'Masak Lada Hitam' secret

Goreng sekejap jerr..just nak dapatkan layer tepung tu jer. Tujuan kita buat mcm tu sebab lapisan tepung tu akan absorb kuah, so lagi sedap and nampak lagi cantik, sebab kuah tu lekat kat daging yang dimasak.

Masak Lada Hitam

Anything will do..ayam boleh, daging pun boleh. Saya cuba ayam untuk kali ni..senang je nak prepare dish ni..lebih kurang macam masak kicap, bezanyer resepi ni guna lada hitam..so let's see..

  • Sediakan kuah..bahan2nyer sama mcm masak kicap. Bawang, bawang putih & halia ditumbuk/ blend kemudian tumis sampai wangi. Masukkan kicap & lada hitam. Lada hitam tu terpulang pada selera, kalau nak pedas masuk lebih
  • Masukkan air, lepas masuk air..terus masukkan ayam tadi. Reneh sampai ayam masak & kuah pekat.
  • Kuah akan pekat sendiri sebab kat ayam tadi ada tepung jagung.
  • Masukkan sayur2an jika suka, i.e carrot, capsicum, tomato etc..

RenDaNG HaTi aYAm

My mum's recipe..miss you mum!!
I prefer to have this with little bit gravy in it, serve with white bread or steam rice..
I used to see my mum cooked this..and now when i am away far from her, i just gave my try. With the fact that some of the ingredients are hard to get in this kangaroo land, thus i made some modification. So let's see the substitutions..
  • Half kg chicken liver
  • 2-3 shallot - blended
  • 1 garlic clove - blended
  • Little bit of ginger - blended
  • 1 stalk lemon grass - chopped
  • 1 tsb or more blended dried chilli (i substituted with chilli powder)
  • 2 tsb curry powder
  • Tumeric leave (i substituted with dried tumeric leave)
  • 3/4 cup thick cocunut milk & 3/4 cup lite cocunut milk (i substitued with 3/4 small pack of cocunut cream plus 1/2 cup of plain water)
  • half cup kerisik - taosted fresh shreded coconut, finely blend (i substituted with dried shreded coconut, toated and then finely blend)
  • 4-5 snake beans (i substitued with green beans)
  • salt to taste
  1. Except kerisik and snake beans, combine everything in a medium pan over medium heat. Simmer for a while untill chicken liver become tender.
  2. Add in the beans and simmer for another 4-5 minutes. Add some salt.
  3. Add in kerisik and keep simmering. You can either left some gravy in it if you like OR keep simmering untill it fully dried.

We had an opportunity to experience the strawberry picking while we were in Melbourne. Not exactly in Melbourne, it's about 100km from Melbourne city in a place called Sunny Ridge Farm, near to Mornington Penisular.

According to the peoples who working in that farm, strawberry turns great and juicy in hot weather..yes it is, they taste lovely indeed! But hot weather on that day didnt allow me to stay longer in the strawberry terrace area. I dare not!! It was 41 degree at that time..so we just quickly get in, and went out in not even half an hour time..hehhehe

With $8 per adult entry, visitors are allowed to eat as much as they want. They are allowed to pack home those strawbery as well with ammount not more than 0.5kg per entry. Thus, we managed to pluged 1kg of strawberries, and thats to much for both of us... hehhehhee therefore i came out with strawberry muffin for today's breakfast, and we'll have strawberry smoothie for tomorrow morning, perhaps :D

Strawberry Muffin
  • 2 eggs
  • half cup of sugar
  • 7-8 medium size strawberry (or more, if you like)
  • 3 tsb fresh milk
  • 2 tsb butter
  • 1 cup of self raising flour
  1. Beat egg and sugar till you get the fluffy batter
  2. Melt butter in warmed fresh milk, and pour into the egg batter
  3. Add in flour
  4. Mash or blend the strawberry and stir into the batter. Combine well
  5. Spoon batter into the prepared mould or muffin cup and bake under 180 degrees for 20-25 minutes. Done!
